Amelie - The Dusky Large Blue Butterfly
 

In the 14 colorful double pages on which my illustration combine scientific accuracy and painterly joie de vivre.

 

The fate of this highly specialized butterfly is closely intertwined with the survival of its namesake and endangered food: the burnet. Also the red-yellow ant, which is by the way at the same time host and enemy. The project was commissioned by the Natura 2000 station Obere Saale as a promotional tool to raise awareness of the threatened species, as species-appropriate mowing practices can better protect it.

 

Besides the Large Blue butterfly in its various life stages, numerous other animal and plant species can be discovered on every page. A small book that inspires you to explore the meadow more closely!
